Idling between R1 and R2
Even I have become sick of b-school talk these days. I half-heartedly check my email about 5 times a day looking for the elusive harvard interview invite. And I do browse through BW to see if the SF hub interviews have come out (seems to be no as of today...) But besides that, all is quiet for me on the b-school front.
I am still having some trouble getting the momentum up for R2, specifically my #5 school which unfortunately has the closest deadline. I think I'm one of those all-or-nothing type of people...i either need to hang out with the serial chess players at the coffee shop every night (I was definitely becoming their non-chess playing regular) or I cannot get much done at all.
If I were to do it all over again, I would go all 5 apps in R1. I know all you peeps out there worked your a$$es off to get them done, but it must be such a satifying feeling! The waiting begins instead of this strange dead zone between rounds...
Anyway, the good news is I'm at my parents house this week "working from home." Uh - guessing these will not be the days I describe when asked to describe a typical day.
"Good question, Mr. Interviewer, glad you asked. Here's a typical day for me working remotely":
8am: woke up, turned on my computer and IM, fell back asleep
9am - 11am: propped up in bed and checked BW, read my fave blogs, and watched Thursday's Grey's anatomy rerun online
11 - 1pm: lunch
1pm - 3pm: watched some bad dating shows on TV (but still managed to respond to all emails since my computer volume was turned all the way up to alert me. that's good and responsible, right?)
3pm - 3:30pm: ate snacks
3:30 - 5pm: cleaned out my overflowing inbox while chatting on the phone (hope those emails i just deleted weren't important...)
5 - 6pm: stay "online" to look as though i'm working hard/late at home (as if i'm fooling anyone)
And I think I deserve to go to business school, why? ;)

I'd submitted 5 apps in R1 and I am in the same state - checking for updates, reading random MBA stuff on the net and lacking momentum to work on R2 apps. But i'm slightly better coz i have an interview during this coming weekend to keep me occupied.
I just submitted 2 apps in R1 and I have become soooo lazy ;)
ALl the best!
5 apps in R1 is certainly impressive but I question how much attention one can put into each application in that case.
I am having the same issue. I only submitted two apps in R1 and am having sucha hard time getting started on the three I want to submit this round. Good luck!
@iday - just got my hbs interview...now i can stop idling now too! however, this is certainly is not going to help my R2 apps! Good luck on your interview this weekend :)
@stresstensor/mba_salsera - so hard to not be lazy! let me know if you think of any strategies :) BOL to you both!
@caspian - i guess it depends on how early you start. i was a later start on my essays, but if only i could have gotten the momentum going back in july... oh well! best of luck to you!
I so envy you for that kind of work from home lifestyle!! Besides, I'm a fan for grey's anatomy too~ Haven't submitted any apps yet coz i postponed my R1 apps to R2 except for Stern which is due Dec 1st. Finished essays for two schools, and now I'm finding it hard to start the third... Seem like everybody's having the same problem hah
//however, this is certainly is not going to help my R2 apps!
Well, dont let this play on ur mind. HBS's decision deadline is mid Jan (17th i guess) and many R2 deadlines wud have passed by then.
Columbia RD deadline is Jan 10th, Stanford R2 is Jan 10th as well and Haas R2 is Dec 11!!! So - u better get going :)
But yeah - all that u shud be doing now is to prep for that HBS interview. All the best.
ha ha ha! Even i am yet to start, yes start, my R2 app(s). U pretty much accurately described the work from home thingy! :D
haha! glad to know others are in the same boat as me!
@katrina - as much as I complain about work sometimes, the whole work from home thing is pretty awesome! And yes, I too am obviously a huge grey's fan ;) good luck on your apps!
@iday - thanks :) You are definitely right...trying to get my butt moving on these apps. luckily i have started on my haas application, but the other two...yikes!
@hobbes - haha - good luck on getting the R2 apps going...we need to all motivate each other! and yes - working from home is wonderfully unproductive - I am starting Day 2 of it right now :)
Grl... you just became my inspirations... and I thought I was the only person who is hooked on GA, slacks off when working at home, and wanting to get into the Stanford/Harvard/Hass...
