Looking for answers in all the wrong places...

So, I dont know about you, but these days I am looking for "signs" everywhere. Does the formation of the tea leaves in my cup mean I'll get into Stanford? Is my dream about Columbia a premonition of things to come?

And in the absense of signs, I am more than content to surf the internet for any website that claims to tell me my odds based solely on my gmat, gender, and gpa (if only it were so simple!). Sometimes this leaves me in a state of panic, but sometimes the results are just humorous. Thought I would share my most recent findings...

(I know these websites are doing their best to help, but my god this is not helping me work on the berkeley app!!!!!)

School/ Interview/ Acceptance

Berkeley/ 31.71%/ 11.48%

Columbia/ 80.80%/ 47.58%

Harvard/ 45.84%/ 58.98%

Northwestern/ 96.33%/ 52.26%

Stanford/ 44.07%/ 57.62%

In other news - a Kellogg adcom announced on the BW forums that they will begin to release decisions "in random order, on a rolling basis" beginning this Friday. yikes.

Columbia interview 80% of the applicants and accept 47% of them?? Is that correct understanding of the figures? Coz i read on Columbia's website the acceptance rate is only around 18%...

Anyway, don't be too obssessed with the stats. Just believe what u deserve would come around. Good luck!

I can't make sense of these stats. Harvard interviews 23-25% of the applicants only.

I cannot make sense of the stats. Kellogg interviews as many applicants as possible (explained by the 98.xx%) but they cannot admit >50% of them. That wud leave them with a class as big as 2500 or more :)

HBS and Stanford are known to have lesser, i mean much lesser, interview invite percentages. Mid or late 20s is what i keep hearing. And i think the acceptance rate shown here for these two schools is exactly what i hear. (eg: HBS gets 6000 apps, invites 2700 (45%) of them - they must admit 1500). They have a 90% yield and hence, for a class of size 900, they issue only 1000 admits. Do the same math for Stanford and the number of admits are much higher than the 500 they give each year :)

@asiangal/katrina/anon/iday - i found those stats that are supposed to be specific to my profile. (more for fun than anything). if you want to see your specific ones, take a look at this link: http://www.mbabuzz.com/phpbb/predictor.php Enjoy!

And good luck to you all :)

Don't worry about the Berkeley stats! I had similar concerns when I read an article that said 75% of applicants who applied to Haas who had above a 750 GMAT were rejected. I talked to my friend who went there though, and he said that an incredible number of Berkeley students who were really talented came off the wait list.

I looked into the stats and it seemed like almost half the Berkeley class gets in off the wait list. So basically their admit numbers are skewed really low since they waitlist almost as many people as they admit, most of whom eventually get in.

We're glad you were having fun with our predictor tool. Just so no one is confused :-p, the stats are specific to your profile, so 50% chance with HBS (which btw is amazing) means that historically, someone with your profile would have a 50% chance of obtaining an interview. Try the tool for free. And yes, the statistical model, while very accurate is more for fun than anything. :)
